Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students if they know what money is and why we use it. Show them real examples of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Ask if anyone can name them. - Video Time! (3 mins)
Watch the "Counting Coins Song for Kids" by NUMBEROCK. Encourage students to sing along and pay attention to the value of each coin. - Coin Value Review (5 mins)
After the video, review each coin and its value. Use visuals like drawings of coins or real coins. Repeat: Penny = 1 cent, Nickel = 5 cents, Dime = 10 cents, Quarter = 25 cents. - Counting Practice (7 mins)
Start with simple counting. "If you have one penny, how many cents do you have? If you have two pennies?" Then move on to nickels, dimes, and quarters individually. Then practice counting mixed coins. Start with sets of two types of coins. - Word Problems (5 mins)
Present simple word problems: "You have a dime and a nickel. How many cents do you have in all?" Use manipulatives (coins) to help them solve the problems. - Wrap-up (5 mins)
Recap the lesson by asking students what they learned about coins. Play the song again if time permits.
