Educator Instructions

  • Introduction (5 mins)
Start by asking the children what they know about connecting things (like building blocks or train tracks). Introduce the idea that words can also connect things - like ideas!
  • Video Time! (5 mins)
Watch the 'Subordinating Conjunctions' video from Learn Bright together. Pause at the example sentences to give children a chance to think.
  • Let's Talk About It (5 mins)
After the video, review what a conjunction is in simple terms. Ask them to give examples of things that connect (bridges, tape, glue).
  • Sentence Building Game (10 mins)
Give the children simple sentence stems and have them finish the sentence using a conjunction (e.g. 'I like to play because...' or 'After we eat lunch, we will...'). Encourage creativity!
  • Quiz Time (5 mins)
Complete the multiple choice and fill in the blank quizzes.

Interactive Exercises

  • Connect the Pictures!
Print out pictures of everyday objects. Have children draw a line connecting two pictures and explain why they are connected, using 'because' or 'and'.
  • Finish the Sentence
