Educator Instructions
- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what their favorite animals are and how those animals move. Introduce the 'Animals in Action' video and explain that they will be learning about different animals and their movements. - Video and Movement (10 mins)
Play the 'Animals in Action' video. Encourage students to stand up and move along with the song, mimicking the animal movements as they are shown. Pause after each animal to discuss the movement and where the animal lives. - Habitat Sorting (10 mins)
After the video, create three labeled areas in the classroom: 'Sky,' 'Ground,' and 'Water.' Call out the animals from the video one by one, and have students move to the area that represents the animal's habitat. Discuss why each animal belongs in that habitat. - Animal Action Charades (10 mins)
Write down each of the animals from the video on separate pieces of paper. Have each student pick a piece of paper and act out the animal's movement without making any sounds. Have the other students guess the animal. - Wrap-up and Review (5 mins)
Review the different animals and their movements. Ask students what they learned about where animals live. Encourage students to share their favorite animal movement from the activity.
Interactive Exercises
- Animal Movement Relay Race
Divide the class into teams. Have each team line up, and designate animal movements for each team member to perform (e.g., cheetah run, monkey swing, turtle paddle). The first team to complete the relay wins. - Habitat Diorama
Have students create dioramas of different animal habitats using shoeboxes and craft materials. They can include animals from the video in their dioramas.
