Discuss the meaning of the word "digit" as a part of a number. Write several numbers on the board (e.g., 35, 128, 2023). Ask students to identify the digits in each number. Play the Homeschool Pop video from 2:24 to 2:49. - Exploring Place Value (15 mins)
Introduce the place values: ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands. Use base-ten blocks (if available) to visually represent each place value. Explain how the position of a digit determines its value. Play the Homeschool Pop video from 2:49 to 7:03. - Practice and Quiz (15 mins)
Work through several examples together, identifying the digit in each place value. Have students work independently or in pairs on practice problems. Have students take the multiple choice and fill in the blank quiz to assess understanding.
