- Introduction (5 mins)
Begin by asking students what they already know about multiplication and the number 6. Introduce the concept of multiples and skip counting. Explain that they will be learning the six times table through a fun song. - Video Viewing (5 mins)
Play the "6 Times Table Song | Skip Counting by 6 | Multiplication Song" video from NUMBEROCK. Encourage students to sing along and dance if they want! - Discussion (10 mins)
After watching the video, discuss the multiples of 6 that were presented in the song. Write them on the board (6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60, 66, 72). Ask students if they noticed any patterns. For example the numbers in the ones column. - Activity: Skip Counting Practice (10 mins)
Have students practice skip counting by 6 as a class. Start at 6 and have each student say the next multiple. Then, have them work in pairs to practice skip counting with each other. Have one student start at 6 and have them alternate calling out the multiple of 6 until they each reach 72. - Activity: Multiplication Chart (10 mins)
Have students create a multiplication chart for the number 6. This can be done on paper or using an online tool. They should write down 6 x 1 = 6, 6 x 2 = 12, and so on, up to 6 x 12 = 72. - Wrap-up and Assessment (5 mins)
Quickly review the multiples of 6. Ask students to give examples of when they might use the six times table in real life. (Ex. If you have 4 groups of six students, how many students are there?)
